Copying and Scanning
Feel free to both scan and copy from the library’s books. Make sure that you’re complying with the copyright laws as seen below.
Note: there are differences between scanning laws and copying laws.
Copying
When copying something you make an exact physical reproduction of it.
The copied material will therefore have the same format, size and coloring as the original.
When copying something you produce a new identical copy in the same format as the original.
-
You can freely copy books for personal use.
It’s not permitted to distribute copies to others, e.g. friends, classmates, or internet groups, however.
-
E-books you’ve bought
You may copy an e-book you’ve bought for personal use.
You may not share your e-books with others.
E-books you’ve borrowed
You may not copy or forward e-books you’ve borrowed.
You may not print it out and give the printouts to others.
-
You may not copy text, sound, or pictures from websites, unless it’s for personal use only.
If the website explicitly states that copying is allowed, you may also copy its content.

According to Absalon’s agreement with Copydan, you may take screenshots from websites
Scanning
When scanning something you make a digital copy of it.
The digital copy can be saved on a computer, shared by email etc.
When scanning something you convert the physical material to a digital file with digital data, that allows you to store, edit and share the file electronically.
-
You may scan up to 20% of a book (a maximum of 30 pages however).
Scans are only for personal use and may not be distributed to others.
For the teachers
You may copy and scan a maximum of 20% but no more than 30 pages of each material.
However, the library strongly recommends that you link all files from the web if they are over 30 pages instead of downloading and sharing them.
This also applies to anything downloaded from government agency sites such as the Danish Health Authority or similar.
You can share the materials with your students by
- Handing out papers in class.
- Sharing them digitally on iPads, Smartboards, Teams, Zoom etc.
- Sharing them digitally on Absalon's password-protected platforms such as OneNote.
- Share them digitally on ItsLearning.
You may not:
- Share the materials with anyone other than students and employees at University College Absalon.
- Share the materials via email, websites or social media - not even in closed groups.
- Share articles, even if they are available online, on Itslearning - these must be linked to instead.
Copying journals
You are allowed to copy 20% of a journal or a maximum of 30 pages yearly. The calculation is based on all issues of the journal published within the calendar year and not just the individual issue.
