Quotes and Plagiarism

It’s common to quote short passages from books and other sources, when writing an assignment.

However, remember to:

  • Type the quote correctly.
  • Make it clear that it’s a quote.
  • Type the citation correctly and make sure it corresponds to the reference standard of your assignment.

Plagiarism

It may be a case of plagiarism if:

  • You use someone else’s material as if it were your own, without properly citing the original sources.
  • You reuse passages from your previous assignments without specifying where they’re from.

This is not allowed, so remember to always cite your sources.

Please note: Many educational institutions, including Absalon, use screening tools to check if assignments contain plagiarism.
